Well-being is the experience of health, happiness and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfactions, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress.
“Well-being is fundamentally no different than learning to play the cello.” This is the
conclusion that neuroscientist Richard Davidson at the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his colleagues have come to.
Basically: You can get better at well-being. It’s a skill you can train for. But like learning or improving upon any new skill, it's something that can best be achieved with the help of a mentor, teacher or coach.
Did you know that you are 65% more likely to complete a goal if you commit to someone and if you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed, you will increase your chance of success by up to 95%? according a study performed by the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD). This includes developing new and or better habits which is actually called the Science of Well-Being.
The Science of Well-Being explores how habits can help you to rewire your brain. Such good habits can be physical activities, like sleep or exercise, choices, like opting for spending your money on experiences rather than things, mindsets, like gratitude or not comparing yourself to others, and social practices, like kindness and being socially connected.
Here are 15 tips to boost your well-being and happiness:
1. Accept your emotions
2. Take daily risks
3. Live in the present
4. Be introspective
5. Laugh
6. Determine and live your personal values
